In 1889, Nintendo started its journey as a manufacturer of traditional playing cards known as “hanafuda”. Today, the new Nintendo museum honors these humble beginnings in the Craft and Play section, where visitors can learn about hanafuda and participate in workshops to design their own cards.
The Discover Hall is the main destination for Nintendo enthusiasts, showcasing a huge collection of the company’s products throughout history, from rare devices and collector’s editions to unreleased prototypes. The hall also features eight unique interactive games that embody Nintendo’s key creations in the gaming world.
Visitors can interact with Nintendo’s history through fun activities such as the Big Controller game, allowing them to experience classic Nintendo games on giant controllers resembling Wii and Famicom. They can also enjoy other games like Zapper & Scope and Love Tester.
The museum features an eye-catching design, with plenty of playful details that define Nintendo, such as singing frogs and safes resembling Game Boy cartridges. It also includes the Hatsina Burger café and a gift shop offering a wide range of exclusive products.
Tickets cannot be purchased directly from the museum. Visitors must register for a draw on the museum’s website at least three months in advance. Once the results are announced, tickets must be purchased immediately, with prices of $23 for adults and $15 for children.
