The Story:

The game’s events take place in an old western setting where outlaws and armed gangs are everywhere. The story is played using five different characters: a bounty hunter seeks to rescue her kidnapped husband after the death of her son; a grotesque being seeks revenge after a terrible transformation; a young archer seeks to protect his land from evil spirits; a werewolf and a witch. All these characters are connected in one story where you can switch between them in the gameplay.

The side quests were good and entertaining. One involves losing a coat, another seeks revenge, and a gang leader wants to control a specific piece of land. However, the main issue was the repetitive gameplay design, not just in side quests but in the overall game as well.

The game’s story and side stories try to create a sense of horror and excitement in the player’s heart, but from a certain perspective. You always find yourself doing the same thing, sneaking into a place, attacking forcefully, or assassinating someone to achieve your main goal. This repetition was one of the game’s major flaws.

What Does Weird West Offer?
Weird West is an Immersive Sim game, giving players great freedom to customize the game world as they want. The game mechanics give players the freedom to decide how they want to spend their time in the game world.

Movement in the game is by clicking on the desired location on the map and transitioning to it in a few seconds. This idea was implemented to avoid a dull open world and compel the developers to fill in gaps that may become burdensome on the game.

Gameplay:

I can liken it to Far Cry, a place filled with enemies and the choice is left to you: either direct assault or stealthily killing them one by one. Direct assault is highly chaotic and exciting, especially with the characters’ special skills and the variety of attack methods. It is challenging due to the enemies’ good AI, as they attack you collectively and disperse in an organized manner. However, sometimes it becomes overly chaotic, leaving you unsure of how to proceed.

Stealth in the game relies on crouching, as running can be heard by nearby enemies, adding a great deal of fun to stealth. You can also hide in the grass, creating a significant value for stealth. The presence of grass and rocks for hiding, using bottles to distract enemies, and spying through building windows all enhanced the stealth gameplay.

The skill tree unlocks abilities to add to your firearms or melee weapons, enhancing combat in different ways.

Replay Value:

Weird West has the potential to be a replayable game, allowing you to replay it differently. For example, most players focused on not breaking the law in the game to maintain your own moral standards. You can replay the game without paying attention to that to see how it affects your experience and the game’s story and side quests.

Conclusion:

A good game with a unique world containing different ideas executed excellently, but lacking in mastering the story properly and focusing more on the gameplay, which also has some flaws despite its uniqueness. Therefore, I recommend trying it out if you are a fan of top-down perspective games set in western worlds with supernatural characters.
