As Silent Hill 2 Remake was being launched, the game’s Wikipedia page came under attack from angry users who disapproved of the game receiving widespread critical acclaim and high ratings.
As a result, Wikipedia was forced to close the game page to mitigate the impact of re-editing the page and registering low ratings. Some fake ratings were quoted from certain sites after being edited and recorded as their final ratings. For example, Eurogamer gave the game a rating of 5/5, but one editor claimed on the Wikipedia page that the game received a 0/5 rating from the same site.
Even the actual game ratings from Metacritic and OpenCritic were manipulated and reduced to very low levels, as shown in the image below. The game was rated 27/100 for the PlayStation 5 version and 10/100 for the PC version, while in reality, the game received a rating of 87/100 on Metacritic for both platforms.
It is unclear what motivates these false edits, although some assume they are driven by the game returning to the spotlight and gaining critical acclaim due to changes in character appearances and outfits, while still not offering much in terms of gameplay. Some believe that the reason for this attack is that Bloober Team studio is responsible for the game’s remake.
Nevertheless, this attack was addressed, and the officials at Wikipedia edited the game page and restored the ratings to their normal state.
Although Silent Hill 2 Remake has not been released yet, special editions (Deluxe) have become available to some, which has had a positive impact on the game page on Steam, as it has received high ratings from users.
This backlash may also come from players who have not had the opportunity to experience the game due to it not being available on their preferred platform, as Sony has exclusive rights for the console version only on the PlayStation 5.
In any case, our review of the game is now available and has received a final rating of 9/10, and you can read the full review here.
Silent Hill 2 Remake will be released on PlayStation 5 and PC on October 10th, while preloading the game can already be started in preparation for the release day.
