Sony has announced the suspension of hardware and software sales, including the halting of operations at its PlayStation Store in Russia in response to the unwarranted invasion of Ukraine by the country.
This move comes after a week of Ukraine’s Deputy Prime Minister, Mykhailo Fedorov, calling on technology companies like Sony and Microsoft to withdraw from the Russian markets.
The company said in a statement: “Sony Interactive Entertainment (SIE) joins the global community in calling for peace in Ukraine.”
“We have suspended all software and hardware shipments, the launch of Gran Turismo 7, and PlayStation Store operations in Russia.
To support humanitarian aid, Sony Group Corporation has announced a $2 million donation to the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) and the international non-governmental organization, Save the Children, to support the victims of this tragedy.”
