A statement was released by the developer of the game Outlast, Red Barrels Studio, on their official website X. In the statement, they revealed that their information system was attacked by hackers, leading to the theft of important data. Security experts were called in to contain the situation and shareholders who may be affected were informed, after which the post was deleted.
According to some sources, the leaked data included various things such as HR information, credit card numbers, copies of games, and the complete source code for both Outlast games. The leaked data amounted to 1.8 terabytes or 1.5 million files.
One unnamed source mentioned that the hacker responsible for the breach is a newly formed group of hackers called Nitorgen, who demanded an undisclosed amount of money, threatening to release all the data if not paid.
It is worth mentioning that stealing the source code of a game can easily lead to the release of a cracked version with no protection, along with credit card information that allows almost anything to be purchased at the expense of the owner.
