CDPR became famous for its work on The Witcher 3 and has become one of the biggest names in the gaming world today, however, the team stumbled a few years ago, damaging its reputation after the disastrous launch of Cyberpunk 2077.
While those days have passed, CDPR believes it may never fully recover from that setback, and it is clear that the team is still taking the 2020 failure to heart, hoping that future titles will regain some of the lost confidence.
In an interview with Eurogamer, CDPR discussed the events leading up to the release of Cyberpunk 2077 and the aftermath of the disaster. According to director Pawel Sasko, the role-playing game was developed in about 4 and a half years, and this rapid production cycle did not serve the studio in any way.
The director hopes that the team’s future projects will erase that bad image, pointing to The Witcher 4 and CDPR’s new project, Project Hadar. It is said that all these games are very ambitious, and The Witcher 4 is expected to raise the bar for role-playing games.
Hints for The Witcher 4 suggest that Ciri will be the lead instead of Geralt. If these predictions are true, it means that the events of the upcoming game will see major changes in gameplay, as Ciri possesses the Elder blood ability, allowing her to access powerful and rare magical spells that could be very enjoyable in combat and exploration as well.
